Capoten (Captopril) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. It is also used to treat heart failure, protect the kidneys from harm due to diabetes, and to improve survival after a heart attack.Captopril is an ACE inhibitor and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.

- Loss of taste may occur as your body adjusts to the medication
- Dry cough may also occur

CAPOTEN® (captopril tablets, USP) is a specific competitive inhibitor of angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE), the enzyme responsible for the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II.
Captopril is a white to off-white crystalline powder that may have a slight sulfurous odor.
It is soluble in water (approx. 160 mg/mL), methanol, and ethanol and sparingly soluble in chloroform and ethyl acetate.
CAPOTEN is available in potencies of 12.5 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg as scored tablets for oral administration.
Inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, lactose, and stearic acid.
